Anglo Saxon Period
origin of the English language
In ancient times, before the death of Christ, there were no national boundaries. There were just tribes and groups of people fighting with each other. The tribe that wins will control the treaties. The stay of the tribes will not be permanent because the next tribe will come and dislodge the first one. The relationship between knowledge and power has been very intimate. It is the power that determines knowledge and language. We can take the example of Hindustan the language of the people was Sanskrit because Sanskrit-speaking people were in power. Whoever is in power will impose their own language. Everyone starts using the language of the ruler class. When Muslims came to India people started using the Persian language because Muslims came from Persia. Persian became India's official language because it was the rulers' language. When the Persian language interacted with Sanskrit other languages came out as Urdu and Hindi. That is how languages are born. The same case applies to the English language.
Earliest tribes Gales and Caelts
In ancient times, the Island of England was governed by tribes. The earliest tribes were the Celts and Gaels. These two tribes invaded the island of England, They ruled it for many centuries. The language of Caelts was Celtic and the language of Gales was Galic. It was these languages that were spoken in ancient times on this island. When the next tribes come and the first one goes the language of the first tribes leaves its impact behind. Every group of people leaves something of his language and culture behind it.
54 BC Roman Invasion
(Language Latin)
Romans attack England first in 54 BC and later in 52 BC. Jolious Sesear attacked England in 54 BC and made it a part of Rome. The rule of Romans continued for almost four hundred years up to 450. From 54 BC, it was the Romans who ruled England. They brought the Latin language with them because they spoke the Latin language. The Galic and Celtic languages were the earliest languages that were spoken in England but they were not written yet because writing came later. Celtic and Galic are the languages that were spoken on this island. With the occupation of Romans Latin became the official language because it was the language of the ruling class. Latin languages have an advantage because Christianity was born in Italy. The language of those people was Latin. Latin became the language of religion because the Bible was in Latin therefore it became a very influential language in Europe.
All Europe very soon turned in Christian therefore people read and learn Latin. In England, Latin ruled for 400 hundred years. Aphabit of English which is used even today is taken from Latin. These Alphbit came from Latin therefore these Alphabits are called Roman Alphabit. English did not have their own alphabet at that time. It was this Alphabet which is adapted entire of Europe. In this way, Latin replaced the Galic and Celtic languages.
5th century 450 AD Germanic tribes migration
(Language Old English)
In 450 England was again attacked by Germanic tribes. These were the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes.
These three Germanic-speaking tribes came from the southeast of Russia. They dislodge the Calts and Gales. In 450 Romans were replaced by these Germanic tribes. They brought their own language. Their language was similar to a Germanic language. Angles have their own dialect, Saxons have their own dialect and Jutes have their own dialect. The very name of England came from these tribes it was not originally there. It came from Angles, and Angles gave the name of England to this Island. The name English was also given by Angles because English was the dialect of Angles. The name England as well as the name of language came from these Germanic tribes. In Ancient times its name was Britiny, then Britain, and then Great Britain. Ireland, Scotland, and Wales were also part of Britain. Later on polition developed and they separated from England. Scotland was separated from England in the 18th century and Ireland was separated in the 20th century, All languages left an impact behind them. The mixture of the dialect of Caelts, a dialect of Gaels, and motherly influence by Lain put together and a new language was born. In this way, the English language was born.
