The use of May and Might with examples and exercise.

 In this article, I have explained the use of so that ------ 'May' or 'Might' with examples and exercise.The sentences in with so that --- may or might is used, has two parts. So that is used to connect two parts of the sentences. In the second part, may is used if the tense is present tense. Might is used in the past tense. This is a very important usage of the English language.




The Use of So That -------- May or Might

The sentence, in which so that is used, has two parts. 'So that ' is used between two parts. If the first part of the sentences is in present or future tense then 'May' is used in the second part of the sentence. If the First part is in Past tense then Might is used in the second part of the sentence. The first form of the main verb is used after May and Might.

The Present Tense

The structure of the sentence.

Subject + Main Verv + Object + So That + Subject + May  + Main Verb + Objecet
Subject + VI + Object + So That + Subject + May + VI + Object

  • People work hard so that they may earn a livelihood.
  • The boys wear new clothes so that they may impress the girls.
  • I earn money so that I may go abroad for higher studies.
  • I go to college so that I may attend the class.
  • We go to the city so that we may buy some books.
  • She studies hard so that she may get a job.

  • I motivate him so that he may pass the examination.
  • We encourage her so that she may continue her education.

The Future Tense

Structure

Subject + Helping Verb + Main Verb + So That + Subjet + May + Main Verb + Object
Subject + Will/ Shall + VI + So That + Subject + May + VI + Object

  • People will work hard so that they may earn a livelihood.

  • They will read books so that they may get knowledge.
  • He will work hard so that he might become a good teacher.
