In this article, I have explained the passive voice of present indefinite tense with examples. I have also explained the positive sentences, negative sentences, interrogative sentences. I have also given examples of positive, negative, and interrogative sentences.

 The passive voice of present indefinite tense

Rules

If we need to make the passive voice of the present indefinite tense, the sentence starts with the object. After the object, helping verb “Be” is used. Past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as the main verb. If the object is “I”, “AM” is used. If the object is singular “Is” is used as a helping verb. If the object is plural “Are” is used as a helping verb.

Positive Sentences

Positive sentences start with an object and then helping verb Is, Am, Are is used according to the object. After object, past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as a main verb. By is used after the main verb and then object is used.

Structure

Object + Helping Verb Be + Main Verb Past participle + BY + Subject

Object + Helping Verb Is/Am/Are +VIII  + By + Subject

Examples

  • (A.V ) He eats an apple.
  • (P.V)  An apple is eaten by him.
  • (A.V)  She hates me.
  • (P.V)  I am hated by her.
  • (A.V )They read many books.
  • (P.V)  Many books are read by them.
  • (A.V.) She sings a song.
  • (P.V) A song is sung by her.
  • (A.V.) He beats her.
  • (P.V.) She is beaten by him.
  • (A.V.) He loves her.
  • (P.V.) She is loved by him.
  • (A.V.) I play cricket.
  • (P.V.) Cricket is played by me.

Negative Sentences

Negative sentences start with an object, not is used after helping verb Is, Am, or Are. By is used after 3rd form of the main verb and in the end, the subject is used in objective form.

Structure

Object + Helping Verb + Not + Past participle + By + Subject

Object + Is/am/Are + Not + VIII + By + Subject

Examples

  • (A.V ) He does not eat an apple.
  • (P.V)  An apple is not eaten by him.
  • (A.V)  She does not hate me.
  • (P.V)  I am not hated by her.
  • (A.V )They do not read books.
  • (P.V)  The books are not read by them.
  • (A.V.) She does not sing a song.
  • (P.V) A song is not Sung by her.
  • (A.V.) He does not beat her.
  • (P.V.) She is not beaten by him.
  • (A.V.) He does not love her.
  • (P.V.) She is not loved by him.
  • (A.V.) I do not play cricket daily.
  • (P.V.) Cricket is not played by me.

Interrogative Sentences

Interrogative sentences start with helping verb Is, am, Are and after the object is used. After object, 3rd form of a verb is used as main verb and the by is used. Ate end of the sentence Subject is used in objective form.

Structure

Helping Verb + Object + Main Verb + By + Subject

Helping Verb Is/Am/Are + Object + Main Verv VIII + By + Subject

(WH) Interrogative sentences

(WH) Interrogative Sentences start with (wH) words like Which, How Where, When, after these words, helping verb “is” Am” Are” is used. Past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as a main verb. After the main verb, By is used. At the end of the sentence, the subject is used in objective form.

Structure

(WH) Words + Helping verb + Object + Main verb + By + Subject

Why + Is/Am/Are + Object +VIII + By + Subject

Examples

  • (A.V ) Why  Does he eat an apple?
  • (P.V) Why Is An apple eaten by him?
  • (A.V) Why Does she hate me?
  • (P.V) why am I hated by her?
  • (A.V )When do they read the books?
  • (P.V)  When are the books read by them?
  • (A.V.) Where does she sing a song?
  • (P.V) Where Is a song sung by her?
  • (A.V.)How does she beat her?
  • (P.V.) How Is she beaten by him?
  • (A.V.)How does he love her?

 (WH)Who

If the word “Who “ is used in an active voice, then “By Whom” is used at the start of sentence. Helping verb Is/Am and Are is used after the word “By Whom”. After helping verb 3rd form of the verb is used. Such type of sentences mostly ended with the main verb and by is not used after the main verb.

  • Who makes a noise?
  • By Whom is a noise made?
  • Who respects me?
  • By whom am I respected
  • Who beats you?
  • By whom are you beaten?
