Introduction

Helping Be is used in the passive voice of the present continuous tense. Past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as a main verb. The object replaces the subject and the subject replacees the object. By is used before the subject.

Affirmative Sentences

Rules

In order to change the active voice sentences into passive of present continuous tense, the positive sentence starts with an object, and then the helping verb Is/Am/Are added being is used. past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as a main verb. By is used after the main verb. At the end of the sentence, the subject is used.

Structure

Object + Helping Verb + Helping Verb + Main Verb + By + Subject

Object + Is/ Am / Are + Being + VIII + By + Subject

Examples

  • I am eating an apple. (Active Voice)
  • An apple is being eaten by me. ( Passive Voice)
  • She is waiting for her friends. (Active Voice)
  • Her friends are being waited by her. (Passive voice)
  • He is reading a book. (Active Voice)
  • A book is being read by him. (Passive Voice)
  • They are playing cricket. ( Active Voice )
  • Cricket is being played by them. ( Passive Voice)
  • You are telling a lie. (Active Voice)
  • A lie is being told by you (Passive Voice)

Negative Sentences 

Rules

Negative Sentences start with an object and then helping "Is /Am /Are " is used according to the object. Being is added after helping Is/Am/Are in passive voice sentences. Past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as a main verb. By is used after the main verb and then the subject is used in the form of an object.

Structure

Subject + Helping Verb + Not + Helping Verb + Main Verb + By + Subject

Subject + Is/ Am /Are + Not  + Being + VIII + By + Subject


Examples

  • I am not eating an apple. (Active Voice)
  • An apple is not being eaten by me. ( Passive Voice)
  • She is not waiting for her friends. (Active Voice)
  • Her friends are not being waited for by her. (Passive voice)
  • He is not reading a book. (Active Voice)
  • A book is not being read by him. (Passive Voice)
  • They are not playing cricket. ( Active Voice )
  • Cricket is not being played by them. ( Passive Voice)
  • You are not telling a lie. (Active Voice)
  • A lie is not being told by you (Passive Voice)

Interrogative Sentences

Rules

Interrogative Sentences start with the helping verb "Is/ Am / Are "(according to object) and after helping is, am, are object is used. Being is used after the object and then, past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as the main verb. By is used after the main verb and the end of the sentence subject is used.

Structure 

Helping Verb + Object + Helping Verb + Main Verb + By + Subject

Is / Am / Are + Object + Being + VIII + By + Subject

(WH) Interrogative Sentences

(Wh) Interrogative sentences start with( wh) words like When, Where, How, Where, Which, Etc, and then the helping verb "Is / Am / Are "(according to object ) is used. Helping the verb "Being" is used after the object. Past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used after Being, and the By is used. At the end of the sentence, the subject is used.

(WH) Words + Helping Verb + Object + Helping Verb + Main Verb + By + Subject

Why + Is / Am / Are + Object  + Being + VIII + By + Subject

(WH) Who

Rules

The method of "Who" is different from the family words. The sentences start with "By Whom", and then the helping verb Is/Am/Are (according to object ) is used. Being is added with helping verb Is/am/are, and then past participle or 3rd form of the verb is used as a main verb. By is not used after the main verb like other sentences. This type of sentence mostly ended with the main verb.

Structure

(Wh) Word + Helping Verb +  Object + Helping Verb + Main Verb

  • By Whom is the door being knocked at? (Passive Voice)
